Contents of kit (appearance may vary slightly):
~ Around 15m of 36AWG or similarly sized magnet wire (copper wire coated with an insulating varnish. Also called enamel wire.)
~ 5mm (Europe) OR 10-32/10-24 (USA) threaded rod with length of 25-35mm. NOT STAINLESS STEEL; it is not magnetic!
~ Gold marker
~ Wire leads
~ Sandpaper/file to remove insulating coating from ends of enamel wire
~ Rubber bands (not displayed) to make the lid spring loaded (3/16″ X Heavy ultra non latex elastics) (not pictured)
Pointers:
Source of 12V (3A) can consist of a 3S LiPo battery, a lead acid battery from a lawn mower, or a 12V “wall-wart” capable of providing several amps of power.
CAUTION: Touching the wires coming from a battery together will cause a short-circuit that can possibly cause a battery to catch fire!
The polarity of the solenoid is irrelevant.
The files include a 3D printable axle that can be inserted into a drill to easily wind the solenoid.
If friction is too high lubricate with graphite by drawing on the appropriate surfaces with a regular pencil.
Hinge can be 3D printed or you can use a 3mm stainless steel rod with a length of 170mm.
